OUR HISTORY
Thanks to our loyal customers for supporting us since 1949!
Casey’s Fireworks started soon after World War II, when second-generation Irish immigrant Jim Casey went in business at a little location on Rosewood Drive in Columbia, South Carolina. At first, the business was a general store, called Jim Casey’s Open Air Market. He prided himself on selling a little of everything. But in the winter of 1949, Jim Casey noticed that the fireworks he carried sold better than any of the groceries he had in stock.
Through the years, Casey’s Fireworks has become a Columbia, SC mainstay with many customers fondly remembering Jim Casey or his son Jack Casey or his son John Casey behind the register or his son Jonmarion Casey behind the register.
We would not be in existence for over 75 years without the support of everyone who has worked at Casey’s Fireworks and without the support of the people of South Carolina. We hope we have made your family celebrations a little bit brighter over the past seven decades.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for keeping us going for four generations and here’s to many more years of making memories.
-John Casey, July 4 2026
Casey soon converted the whole business into Jim Casey’s Fireworks, starting a four-generation family business that is still in operation today. Many of our customers have fond memories of visiting the store as children, when either Jim Casey or his son Jack Casey or his son John Casey were in the store.
In 1957, Jim Casey won his case before the SC Supreme Court to keep fireworks legal in South Carolina. After a local Sheriff tried to ban Jim Casey and all fireworks retailers from selling fireworks in SC Jim won the the case.
Today, thanks to the efforts of Jim Casey, fireworks continue to be a tradition in Columbia, South Carolina. Casey’s Fireworks is still a family business, with a Mega Selection, open since 1949.
